We are extremely proud of our Toddler Room, the Cheery Cherries. Our children in this room are often mistaken for a full age above and we can see why. Their independence, levels of personal responsibility and engagement in their learning are a testament to the Montessori method and to our dedicated teachers.
We consider this age to be the Terrific Two's and we are always pleased to run out of time listing their amazing achievements in the termly Progress Meetings with your Key Person.
Our Cheery Cherries are fascinating people! We see them come alive when they are doing what they love. For many at this age, that might be outdoor play, for others it may be a love of vehicles, books, animals or music.
We love creating environments where our children can show us their passions and we can lean in to the deep learning accessible in this special age.
We know that toddlers can be a time full of big laughs, big wins, and some very big feelings.
To help children understand their emotions and manage their feelings, our teachers continually help children find, and use, their voice.
Children who can communicate well, and feel heard, typically demonstrate calm and kind behaviours, just like us adults.
We encourage children to make their own learning choices in the classroom, and select the activities they want to try. We give them as much time, space and tries as they would like - the more the better!
When we see our children achieve their own goals, and feel so proud of their accomplishments, the best part of a teacher's day is sharing in that joy.
As we prepare our toddlers to move up to the pre-school classroom, above all else we want to have instilled their love of learning.
The Montessori curriculum begins in earnest in the Cheery Cherry room and they will already be accessing numeracy and literacy. We are dedicated to extending a child's focus and understanding to enable them to reach their full potential.
"Toddlers show excellent concentration as they self-select and complete activities that help to develop their fine motor skills, such as using scissors and spanners to undo nuts."
“Staff skilfully ask children questions that extend their thinking and allow them time to answer. Staff encourage children to share their ideas and extend their sentences”
“Toddlers learn about three-dimensional shapes and sizes.”
